INDIA: ABB India is to supply solar inverters for 750 stations in north India as part of an Indian Railways project to reduce dependence on electricity generated using coal, lower energy costs and meet greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.
Forming part of rooftop solar installations being set up by Azure Power, the inverters which convert the DC output of photovoltaic cells to an AC supply will vary between 5 kW and 50 kW depending on the size of the station where they are deployed.
Announcing the order on August 31, ABB said Indian Railways has a current renewable energy generation capacity of 36 MW, which it plans to increase to 1 000 MW. Azure Power’s current national rooftop solar portfolio comprises 100 MW.
